Bayford Community Defibrillator
Would you be able to save a life?
Sudden cardiac arrests affect millions of people every year worldwide. They can happen without warning, without pattern, and leave very little time to react.
Survival from cardiac arrest decreases by around 10% every minute from the time of collapse to defibrillation.
Bayford’s Community Defibrillator
A brand-new Community Defibrillator has been installed in the telephone box by The Unicorn Inn.
It was purchased by Stoke Trister with Bayford Parish Council, with a donation from The Polygon Trust and a grant from South Somerset District Council.
This enables the local community to respond quickly to a sudden cardiac arrest emergency and improve the casualty’s chance of survival while waiting for the Emergency Ambulance Service to arrive.
What should I do in an emergency?
First and foremost, dial 999 and ask for an ambulance.
The emergency operator will ask questions to assess the situation, including whether the person is unconscious, responding, breathing, or has a pulse.
If a defibrillator is needed, they will direct you to the nearest available one and provide the access code. They may also instruct you to begin CPR until help arrives.
If there are two people present, one person should begin CPR while the other retrieves the defibrillator.
Can I use the defibrillator if I am not trained?
Yes. This defibrillator is designed for use by members of the public with little or no training.
Once switched on, the defibrillator will talk you through the process step by step.
You cannot accidentally harm anyone by using it.
First Responders Needed
Sometimes there may only be one person with the casualty. They will need to dial 999 and begin CPR, but a second person may be needed to retrieve the defibrillator.
This second person is known as a First Responder.
We are looking for a small team of local volunteers to become First Responders and provide this vital service to the Bayford community.
Full training on how to access and use the defibrillator will be available to volunteers.
